A collector tin celebrating Breton culture and sardine tradition.

This Ville Bleue Vintage edition from Les Mouettes d’Arvor features artwork honouring the painter Jean-Jacques Barzic, depicting Fort Cigogne in the Glénans archipelago. Part of the cannery’s long-running Ville Bleue series, the tin highlights the work of a local French artist while the sardines inside are prepared in Les Mouettes d’Arvor’s traditional Breton style and preserved in extra virgin olive oil, retaining a firm texture and a flavour that develops gently over time.

Why we chose it at Croisserie

  • A limited-edition Ville Bleue vintage tin featuring artwork by a local French artist
  • Traditionally prepared sardines, hand-packed and preserved in olive oil
  • Ready to enjoy straight from the tin
  • Pairs naturally with our breads, warm or simply toasted, oil included

About the Producer

Founded in 1959, Les Mouettes d’Arvor is the last remaining fish cannery in Concarneau, Brittany. Still family-run, the cannery works closely with fishermen along France’s northwestern coast and preserves fish using fully hand-worked, traditional methods.

Sardines and Preparation

Les Mouettes d’Arvor sardines are fished seasonally along the northwestern coast of France, when the fish are at their ideal size. On arrival at the cannery, they are briefly cured in salted ice water, then cleaned by hand, dried, fried, and packed by hand in extra virgin olive oil — a process that preserves their firm texture and natural flavour.
